► NUS Wales & UK

NUS Wales & UK:

NUS is one of the largest student organisations in the world and represents the interests of around five million students in further and higher education throughout the UK. It has nearly 750 constituent members – virtually every college and University in the country.

The NUS Extra Card is a nationally recognised student ID and discount card. It’s issued to students by their local Students’ Union to show that they’re part of the National Union of Students. For more information on NUS Extra click here.

NUS provide research, representations, training and expert advice for individual students and Students’ Unions. They deal with over 15,000 welfare enquiries each year and train over 3,000 Students’ Union officers.

NUS represents the student voice in the media, parliament and the public, working with national TV, radio and press, and networking with over 140 MPs, ministers and civil servants.

NUS Wales believes fundamentally in the principles of equal opportunities, and pledges to campaign against discrimination both in the student movement and in wider society. It believes that every student and student officer should have an equal chance to get involved in the social, campaigning, democratic and activities-based aspects of NUS Wales.

NUS Wales is an autonomous ‘special region’ of NUS UK, setting its own policy, electing its own executive committee, and campaigning on the issues that affects students studying in Wales.

It has three full time officers who are elected on an annual basis to represent students in Wales.

The NUS Wales executive is also made up of part time officers who are elected at the relevant NUS Wales conferences. They carry out their roles on a voluntary basis and are usually students, or sabbatical officers, from various FE and HE institutions across Wales.
