Student Eye

The Student Home Safety Scheme from Swansea Metropolitan Students’ Union

The scheme will provide you with a number of different facilities to enable you to fully secure your house from any outside threat.

Safety Pack

The scheme will provide your house with a Safety Pack containing a number of different items that can be used to physically secure your house.
These include:
- Door alarms – to alert people that someone has accessed the building
- 24hour timer plugs – to allow you to bring something on to give the impression that the house is occupied
- UV marker pen – so that in the event of a theft, your items can be recovered to you.

Eyes and Ears

Being a member of the Student Eye scheme doesn’t just mean getting a load of free stuff, it also relies on each Student Eye member being aware of other member’s houses and making sure that the property looks and sounds normal – if it is not, then this can be reported.
Safety Information

As a Student Eye member, you will be added to a Safety Information mailing list to receive up-to-date safety information, tailored to you location.

Top Tips

Here are a few Top Tips to make your sure you home is protected.

1. Make sure you have suitable contents insurance:
- Without this, you won’t have any cover if any of your belongings are taken in a burglary. Also be aware that many parental insurance policies won’t cover you!!
- Endsleigh do great Student Cover – and it’s cheap!

2. Make sure that all Windows and Doors have locks, and make sure they are used!
- Don’t leave valuables on show by windows etc
- Opportunists can see in and will be able to pick their way through a house much faster if they know where the valuables are

3. Use a UV Pen to mark your Post Code and House number
- For example ‘SA1 6ED/25’

We hope that you have a safe and enjoyable time whilst at University and hope that the Student Eye scheme will help you to achieve that.
