Swansea Met
Your Union > How MetSU Works

So how is the Union run?

Well it's complicated but in a nutshell here goes ...

We put you at the heart of our decision making. Our elections, Student Council, Course Reps programme, sports and societies and all our other student forums ensure we are listening to you.

MetSU is governed by its constitution which details all the rules, roles and terms and conditions of the running of the Union.

You elect three full time sabbatical officers (Sabbs) each year to run the Students' Union. These 3 Sabbs are the President, Student Activities Officer and Welfare and Student Rights Officer.

The Sabbs represent students at Swansea Met University to the Union, the University, locally and nationally. They are also trustees of the Students' Union and sit on the Board of Trustees alongside 3 external trustees and 3 student trustees. The Board of Trustees are responsible for the strategic management of the Students' Union. They have a number of sub committees which deal with finances, staffing and governance.

The Sabbs are held accountable by the Student Council. The Student Council are responsible for discussing and setting our Union Policies which the Union must then abide by. The Student Council is made up of members that represent a particular group of students.

Our sabbatical team also work closely with our course reps. At the start of each academic year you elect a student from each course and representative group to speak up for students and make your course better for you.

We are run by you, our members, and every member of Swansea Met University has a right to have a say in how we are run and there are many ways for you to get involved.
