NUSW is a membership-led organisation, with 250,000 members.
Affiliated unions are extremely varied in their size, aims and the support they require from NUS.
NUSW representatives sit on a variety of committees that feed into the work of the Assembly Government and other organisations.
NUS Scotland currently emails out a regular ‘NUS Scotland Update’, which informs the Scottish membership of the organisation’s activities, as well as relevant Scottish Parliament news.
NUSW sends out press releases to Welsh media about its position regarding key student issues
NUSW officers are expected to write online blogs to inform the membership of their activities and opinions on student issues.

Conference further believes:

NUSW must improve its communication with the membership if it is to deliver for students and SUs in Wales.
Although unions have the option of feeding into policy through conferences, it is important to keep the membership informed and to consult with officers and students on key issues throughout the year.
Although the NUSW office is based in Cardiff, NUSW sabbaticals must ensure that they travel throughout Wales to ensure that member unions get the support they need
The new NUS website does not provide adequate information on NUSW campaigns, activities or events.
NUSW sabbatical officers are often extremely busy in meetings, union visits and travelling across the UK, but it is important for them to blog regularly on the NUS website.
NUSW should promote links between Welsh unions and help to facilitate the sharing of best practice within the membership.

Conference resolves:

NUSW sabbatical officers must visit affiliated HE unions at least once a term and should attempt to visit as many FEIs as possible
The WNEC should actively consult with the membership when major student issues are on the government’s agenda.
To create the ‘NUSW Update’, a fortnightly electronic newsletter that is emailed to CMs to update them on NUSW activities and relevant government news.
NUSW press releases must be sent to CMs within 24 hours of their release to the media.
NUSW sabbatical officers should blog at least once a month.
NUSW must update web content on a regular basis, ensuring that campaigning news, resources and event details are available to the membership.
NUSW must investigate the feasibility of an NUSW email network or online discussion forum for CMs to communicate and share best practice.
