Council believes:

That SU notice boards exist for the purpose of communicating information to students.
That currently we have no guidelines that dictate what can or cannot be displayed on our notice boards.
That external commercial companies have previously used SU notice boards and webpages to advertise their events to students for the purpose of increasing profit.
That students and landlords have also advertised properties on SU notice boards and webpages.

Council further believes:

That the information that is displayed on SU notice boards and webpages should be for the benefit of our Members.
That SU notice boards can often become over crowded and cluttered, leading to poor communication with our members.
That by allowing tenants and landlords to advertise a property on SU notice boards and webpages, it may appear that we are endorsing the property.
That the SU has no official information about the property / landlord.
That advertising in such a way would be irresponsible and potentially damaging to the Union, should the property or landlord be unsuitable.
That allowing any external commercial companies to advertise on SU notice boards and webpages may be detrimental to existing commercial deals that the SU has negotiated.

Council resolves:

That all information displayed on SU notice boards and webpages should be for the benefit of our members.
That the SU should not allow advertisements for accommodation to be displayed on SU notice boards and webpages.
That the SU should not allow pubs, bars or nightclubs to advertise on SU notice boards and webpages unless the Executive Committee has agreed an advertising deal with the company or management concerned.
That any materials that are displayed on SU notice boards and webpages should comply with all SU policy, including the ‘Equal Opportunities Policy’ and the ‘Sexism and the Rise of Ranch Culture’ policy.
That decisions regarding suitable advertising should be the responsibility of the sabbatical officers on a day-to-day basis.
That all materials displayed on SU notice boards should feature the SU logo or stamp.
To mandate all elected officers and representatives, but in particular the campus representatives, to monitor SU notice boards and webpages and to remove any non SU-approved materials.
