Council believes: That the SU exists for the benefit of students. That the SU is present during the first weekend of term, with officers helping new students to their rooms. Council further believes: That while SU officers show students to their room in halls and tell them about the SU, it is clear that it is difficult for new students to take all of the information in. That as a result, many students are unsure about exactly what the SU does That after Freshers’ Fortnight is over, many students are also unsure about who the SU officers are and what their responsibilities entail. Council resolves: That the SU should continue to be present at Mount Pleasant Campus and Townhill Campus during the first weekend of term. That the SU should continue to accompany new students to their rooms in the university halls of residence. That the SU should continue to produce the SU handbook or should produce leaflets / flyers about what the SU does and who the officers are. That the SU should organise small teams of officers to tour halls of residence during the first two weeks to answer questions and ensure that new students are settling in to their new surroundings. That the SU should produce posters for notice boards, which show who the officers are and how to contact them throughout the year. Word Count – 237 Passed – 15/04/08 |
