FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR NEW STUDENTS Swansea Metropolitan University Students’ Union |
1. 2. 1. 2. 3. 4. 1. 2. 3. 4. |
Conference believes: That many disabled students apply for the Disabled Students Allowance. That these students have to undergo assessment to qualify for this support. Conference further believes: That first time students applying for the Disabled Students Allowance often face a long waiting list for an assessment. That local assessment centres can often be backlogged with people waiting to be assessed. That as a result of this, disabled students often have to go to an assessment centre that is not near to them. That disabled students find it hard to find the money to buy the things they need when moving into halls of residence. Conference resolves: To mandate the NUS Wales SWD Officer to run a campaign that calls for a loan to be made available to students until they get their assessment. To mandate the NUS Wales SWD Campaign to lobby the relevant bodies for more funding in order to provide more assessment centres. To mandate the NUS Wales SWD Campaign to run a campaign focussing on a basic started pack for disabled students. To mandate the NUS Wales SWD Campaign to lobby the relevant bodies for funding to be made available for started packs. |
