INTRODUCING YOUR
Entertainment and Special Events Officer
FOR 2009/10

Amelia 'Mimi' Robinson

My name is Mimi, I’m your current Ents officer will retain the position in the next academic year. I have a love for my job along with the true passion and dedication needed to do it successfully. I have real experience both in my job role and with the SU as a whole.
In my first year on the SU, I was representative of Dynevor Campus, and for the role I sat on 4 University boards where I took student views to the leading staff of the faculty. In my current year on the SU I am Entertainments officer, I’ve had so much fun this year and, because I am so dedicated to providing top quality events I have put a lot of my time into my job on the SU. I feel that because I have been elected into the position by the students, hard work is vital as I have been trusted with the work outlined in my job role. Along side the entertainments side of my job, I have a love for student politics and can and have represented Swansea Met students on a national level.
In the past I have attended NUS Wales Women's Conference where I learnt a lot and made some good friends too. I have also attended the NUS LGBT Activism Training Day to help better understand the needs and history of LGBT students within our university and universities across the UK. I am a part of many societies within the students' union and actively campaign for rights for the liberation groups within Swansea Met.

On March 6th I will attend NUS Wales spring conference with other members of the students' union. Spring conference is where the universities across Wales debate national policies to be put in place to benefit students across the country. It is also the place where the President and Deputy president of NUS Wales are elected, this is important to me because I was asked by candidates for both positions to nominate them because of the commitment i have to my role, this showed me that national officers trust me, and the knowledge I have gained over the past two years and therefore have given me the chance to be a part of something so important.

I have lots of plans for future events at Swansea Met. I want to ensure that an Entertainments Committee is set up and running efficiently by Christmas, this will give me a chance to have a team of students not on the SU, with which I can work to get more varied events at uni throughout the year. I want to get live bands playing, more up and coming comedians, more charity events for things such as Children in Need, as organisations such as this give us a chance to dress up and have a good time, as well as do something for other people.
I've been busy this year getting contacts with bands in and around Swansea to book at Swansea Met in the future.
I am looking forward to working closely with the new Student Activities Officer to make sure that we are booking the best entertainment we can. I will strive to keep the popular events that people talk about for months after they've happened, such as Fresh in the City and I promise you my dedication will remain.
